Franciscan Monastery of the Friars Minor
Explore the monastery dating back to 1317 which takes pride in the exuberant library treasuring many works of priceless cultural and historical value, and one of the oldest drugstores still open to the public in Europe. The library was established the same year as the monastery, in 1317.
Dominican monastery
Visit the Dominican monastery whose construction started in 1225. The monastery was modelled into its current structure in the 14th century. As part of the town walls it is one of the most significant Dubrovnik buildings from the Gothic and Renaissance period. Take a stroll along its lavishly tended courtyard and for a moment or two step back in time.
Dubrovnik Cathedral
Built between 1671 to 1731 and, according to legend, it was financed by Richard I the Lionheart as a symbol of gratitude after surviving a shipwreck in the Dubrovnik waters. Visit this extraordinary Dubrovnik treasure built on the sight of a Roman cathedral which was severely damaged in an earthquake.
Orlando's Pillar
Stop for a moment in front of the oldest preserved public monument in Dubrovnik, a symbol of Dubrovnik independence and freedom, which carried the flag of the Dubrovnik Republic spanning four centuries. Its significance manifests itself in the fact that the measurement for the length, the Dubrovnik elbow, used to be calculated according to the knight's forearm.
Duke' Palace
The large Dubrovnik Palace is of high importance since it used to serve as the government headquarters and duke's residence. The palace was modelled into its current appearance in the 15th century. As you enter the palace, stop for a second to read the inscription above the door which says "Obliti privatorum publica curate” or "Forget your own interests and take care of the mutual ones".
Stradun
While in Dubrovnik, stroll along its main street, Stradun, and see the two large fountains located towards the end (the large and small Onofrio's fountain) dating back to the 15th century. Take a close look at the beautiful palaces which were rebuilt after the large earthquake in 1667 when most of the buildings were devastated.
Sponza Palace
Take a walk towards the impressive 16th century palace, the oldest multimedia amenity in Dubrovnik. The palace used to be a workplace of Dubrovnik poets who founded the Croatian literary institution and nowadays the building functions as the place of the State Archives, the best organized and exuberant archives in Croatia.
Lokrum
This small island has been the centre of attention for a vast number of years and in 1976 it was proclaimed a special forest vegetation reserve. Go for a walk through its botanical garden and the Benedictine monastery or simply enjoy the beautiful nature and the view of the old town of Dubrovnik and the surrounding area.
Elaphiti Islands
A day-trip on a boat exploring the impressive Elaphiti Islands located close to the town, should be on everyone’s list for anyone visiting Dubrovnik. The islands are covered with thick Mediterranean vegetation consisting of olives, cypresses and rosemary which will win you over with its scent. Take a break from sailing on one of the beautiful islands of Šipan, Koločep or Lopud.
Cable car
Hop on a cable car and head towards Srđ Mountain above Dubrovnik, offering an incredible view of the entire town. The cable car system is now fully renovated after being set up for the first time in 1969, being the first and only cable car on the Adriatic Sea.
