An island that delights with its sandy beaches, stunning landscapes, and fascinating history
The island of Rab is located in Kvarner Bay in the northern Adriatic, only fifteen minutes by boat from the ferry harbour in Stinica on the mainland. Rab can be reached by car or bus using the ferry service, and also by boat or catamaran.
The moment you set foot on the island you'll be attracted by the magical beauty of its landscapes, which range from barren rocky hills on the eastern coast that descend steeply into the sea, and the wooded peninsulas and fantastic coves on the western coast, to the magnificent sandy beaches in Lopar, which are typical of the island of Rab.
The main centre of the island is the town of Rab, whose historic centre with its four distinctive bell towers is steeped in history. The ancient Romans discovered Rab and named it Felix Arba or Happy Rab. Most of the important buildings in the old town that have been preserved up to the present day were built in the Middle Ages. You can feel the spirit of this period during the popular Rabska Fjera summer medieval festival.
While on holiday, don't forget to take advantage of all the other benefits the island has to offer. Explore the numerous cycling trails that criss-cross the island. Dive down to attractive underwater sites, or take a ride to secluded coves. Taste fantastic dishes prepared with freshly caught fish, seafood, or lamb. For dessert, try the famous Rab Cake. Take in the scents of the island's aromatic plants and pines, and enjoy your holiday to the full.
