Krk imbrijagoni
Set off on an adventure of discovering one of the best kept sweet Krk secrets, the imbrijagoni cookies. They are special primarily because of their endurance. Namely, back in the day, the people of Krk searched for a special recipe which would enable an amazing expiry date of these cookies. The recipe was well kept among the local population, one ingredient in particular – the fennel liqueur made by only one Krk family.
Šurlice
Each town on the island of Krk prepares this traditional type of pasta differently, but the Vrbnik type is by far the best known. It is of an elongated shape which is gained with the help of a knitting needle. Try šurlice with the various specialties such as shrimps or other types of sea food as well as lamb, with the obligatory ingredient, the ribanac cheese.
Krk lamb
Krk lamb is of an exceptional taste and high quality which it owes to the diverse Mediterranean herbs found across the island pastures. Krk sheep cheese
Due to its unique taste, this semi-fat, hard sheep cheese is an excellent treat. Soothed down with a glass of Vrbnik žlahtina wine, the indigenous wine sort of the Krk area which is a type of high quality dry white wine of an aromatic taste, will give you the full picture regarding the tastes of this region.
Žvacet
A long time ago this meal was prepared only during large celebrations or holidays when gourmet pleasures were allowed, while nowadays it is featured in most Krk restaurants and local taverns. Žvacet is the lamb stew of a rich taste served with the homemade šurlice pasta.
Smokvenjak
It is also called the gourmets’ paradise due to the rich combination of dry figs, walnuts, brandy and fennel. The taste of smokvenjak is a genuine Mediterranean rhapsody usually served with an aperitif.
Presnac
After a traditional Krk meal, order a dessert known as presnac, the fried pastry filled with sheep cheese and raisins.
